Charlize Theron is planning a fundraiser for flood victims in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Charlize Theron, an Oscar winner and human rights
campaigner, has launched a fundraising campaign for victims of the
KwaZulu-Natal floods through her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project
(CTAOP).On Tuesday, Theron, who is also a UN Messenger of Peace, took to social
media to share terrible images of the floods' aftermath. In her message, Theron
urged her global fans and followers to donate to disaster relief to help the
many people who have lost their homes and loved ones as a result of the recent
floods.
"While I understand much of the globe is in suffering
right now, and a lot is being asked of us as global citizens, I'm hopeful
you'll find it in your heart to contribute," she wrote."Earlier this
week, the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) was hit by the worst floods on
record, killing around 400 people and displacing others. Our most important
responsibility at CTAOP is to support our partners through any obstacles they
encounter - and right now, organizations in KZN are reeling, attempting to help
their communities in every way they can, as impacted families need need food,
water, and shelter."
The Bombshell actress highlighted how potential contributors
might help support the project, emphasizing that all money would go to the
people who are affected. "Every $8k (about R118 000) we raise helps our
partners provide displaced families residing in community halls with one week's
worth of support (food, water, and basic needs)."
"All funds earned through this fund-raiser will be
distributed to CTAOP's partners in the KZN region to aid flood relief
operations." Facebook doesn't collect any fees, and EIF has waived theirs,
so every dollar received will go directly to individuals who have been
affected. Thank you very much for your kindness!". The CTAOP, which was
founded by Theron in 2007, advocates young people in Africa by investing in
organizations that prioritize and enhance the health, education, and community
support of these youth, therefore enhancing their potential to stay HIV-free.
Local star Somizi Mhlongo, in reaction to the KZN floods, encouraged his
friends and colleagues, including Cassper Nyovest, Shauwn Mkhize, and DJ Tira,
to donate to the relief fund for the flood victims.
"I know the government is trying to help the people of
KZN; let's help the government help the people of KZN." "I'd like to
urge Durban musicians and promoters to get together this week and organize a
charity performance at Moses Mabhida Stadium, where all artists from across the
nation may volunteer to perform for free... "All of the earnings will go
to all of the relief accounts for the floods in KZN," Somizi added. The
KZN provincial administration has announced that 443 people have died, with 48
persons remaining missing, according to latest reporting on IOL News.
The catastrophe now unfolding in the province has been
dubbed "one of the biggest natural disasters in our country's recorded
history" by the provincial authorities.
