KwaZulu-Natal Floods the worst we’ve ever seen.

to fall once after winds, heavy rainfall and mudslides destroyed many homes and
infrastructure last week. South Africa
deployed 10 00- troops on Monday to help restore power and water and search for
63 people who remain missing after deadly storms battered its East Coast. A week after unprecedented rain began to
pound the City of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province, the death toll stood
at 443 and rescue workers said hopes of finding more survivors were
fading. (Photo by Rajesh Jantilal/AFP).
Atleast 40 000 people
have been left homeless after KwaZulu-Natal received four Months of rain in one
day, prompting the Government to put South Africa back in a National State of
disaster after a recently suspended two-year spell in response to Covid-19.
“These are the worst floods
we’ve ever seen. In over 24 hours, there
was 300 to 400mm of rain, “ Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs
Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma told a news conference on Tuesday, crediting
climate change as a catalyst for the extreme weather.
“February is usually
the wettest Month, where we get about 102mm in one Month. This tells us climate change is here with us
now. Scientists are telling us Eastern
parts of the Country will be wetter with frequent floods and the West is dryer
with frequent droughts. Each will be worse
than the last”
