South Africa educational encouraging (S.T.E.M)subjects.

In South Africa it was estimated that by 2020 as many as 80% of all future jobs will require science, technology , engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M) subjects. South African gorillas has started to solve the shortfall in the subjects. They use programs to reach out to the youth by encouraging them into S.T.E.M. Hands on practical  learning in school is on rise ,allowing young people to be economically active. This type of subjects are not popular and in SA and they are perceived as difficulty by most students and many teachers. The poor perception and negative attitudes  toward these important subjects is part of various cycle that is reflected in the poor performance of our students when they participate in National and international benchmarking test  in both maths and science .

They are many factors contributing to this state of affairs, one of them is a crucial one is the poor delivery of S.T.E.M subjects  by our teaching force, that is the reason on how ORT SA took up the challenge through its robotic and coding clubs in townships schools is changing this perception on grade 7 at the time.South Africa lacks when it comes to creating pool of STEM qualified professionals, they are not in a good at all In 2021 statistic of grade 12 cohort showed that 66% of these learners were lost somewhere along the way during the planned 12 year period of their schooling. Only 27% of the cohort, who completed matric that are qualified to study degree at universities and colleges

Looking at students who started their grade 1 in 2006 only few of them choose to pursue a STEM qualification at tertiary level. Then in robotics the use of technology in learning and development is done through the use of Lego WeDo and mindstorm NXT robotic kits. The  children use the kits to design and build robots ,besides developing critical thinking and auditory listening skills ,encourage the development of fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination. If one is to succeed in  mathematics and science it is essential that one becomes a critical thinker and skills developed when one participate in robotics. Its not a secret that reading and writing essential to children future success so there is no doubt without ability to read and write students  would not have the same maths ,science and technology literacy. STEM  education uniquely provides students with a place to develop their problem solving and critical thinking skill.

STEM subjects are seen as very important to us as foundation ,with the impact of this subjects on our culture, country economy this subjects are our primary focus in educational branch of our organisation many schools around our country need assistant to give our quality of STEM education that needs education  and literacy in science ,maths and technology. Encouraging school learners to study the STEM subjects could have a good Impact to the society they will be a decrease in unemployment because most of student will be doing most demanding subjects
