Warnings issued for Illawarra, South Coast as NSW Flooding Continues.
Multiple people have been rescued from floodwaters and an evacuation as heavy rain continues to lash the Illawarra and South Coast. More than 200mm of rain has fallen in some parts of the region, with more expected today. The SES is urging people to stay home and to not attempt to drive through floodwaters, Schools, roads and rail lines have been shut down throughout the Illawarra.
Residents in the
Picton CBD are being urged to remain on high alert as Stonequarry Creek
continues to rise today, the New South Wales SES has issued a flood evacuation
warning for the area and said people should be prepared to evacuate. A flood watch has also been issued for the
Shoalhaven River and St Georges Basin area, where minor flooding is expected
later today.
SES spokesperson Matt
Price said emergency services were called to three rescues overnight that
involved people driving through floodwaters.

multiple cars into Darkes Road about 4am, “Mr Price said. He says additional crews are out on the road
today.
Obviously we want
everyone to keep safe and make good decisions, and not drive through the
floodwaters, “Mr Price said. He urged
motorists to take extra care on the road and said those who could work from
home should do so.
